i Cellisti Annual Fundraiser
This season’s theme, “Cello Plus One,” features six duos composed for cello plus another instrument. An all-star cast of some of Cleveland’s finest musicians have donated their services for this very popular event.
The duo teams are:
•Mark Kosower, Principal Cello and Joshua Smith, Principal Flute of The
Cleveland Orchestra, respectively, playing Duo Op. 64, No. 1-3 by German composer and cellist, Franz Danzi (1763-1826).
•Cellist Sharon Robinson and violinist Jaime Laredo, internationally- acclaimed artists and Cleveland Institute of Music faculty, performing Duo, WV 74 by Czech composer Erwin Schulhoff (1894-1942).
•Richard Weiss, First Assistant Principal Cello and Joela Jones, former Principal Keyboardist of The Cleveland Orchestra, respectively, performing Introduction and Allegro for cello and accordion by Hungarian-born, British composer Mátyás Seiber (1905-1960).
•Cellist Tanya Ell and clarinetist, Robert Woolfrey, both members of The Cleveland Orchestra, playing Cantillations by Ofer Ben-Amots (b. 1955).
•Khari Joyner, Baldwin Wallace University cello professor and violist Chris Gokelman, Oberlin College faulty, playing American Haiku by Paul Wiancko (b. 1983).
•Cellist Brian Snow and percussionist Dan Piccolo, both professors at Bowling Green State University, performing Boris Kerner by Caroline Shaw (b. 1982).
The concert’s grand finale will feature four cellists of The Cleveland Orchestra (Mark Kosower, Richard Weiss, Brian Dumm, and Tanya Ell) playing a cello quartet arrangement of Rossini’s Overture to The Barber of Seville.
