October 22, Tuesday, 7 PM: Tour of the Caldwell Collection of Viols

The Caldwell Collection of Viols is the second largest private collection in the world and is considered to be the finest.  This rare assortment resides in Oberlin, Ohio, where it was assembled by Catharina Meints Caldwell and her late husband, James Caldwell.  (This dynamic duo also co-founded the internationally acclaimed Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute.)  

The collection includes 23 viols of all sizes, and a few cellos.  Physically they are in excellent playing condition and extremely beautiful.  Catharina will discuss the instruments and play on them to demonstrate the difference among the French, English, and German voices.
