July 5, 1924 to April 28, 2013
The Cleveland Cello Society wishes to express its sadness at the passing of Mr. Starker, one of the great cellists of our time. He influenced and inspired cellists around the world, but we at the CCS were especially fortunate in that our very first event, held in May 1997, was a Master Class led by him. Two years later, he returned to Cleveland and graced us with a recital, drawing the largest audience of any CCS event, before or since.

The Winners and Honorable Mentions are:
Elementary Division: Marissa Veccia, winner; and Nazani Cassidy, honorable mention
Junior Division: James Hettinga, winner
Senior Division: Isabel Dimoff, winner; and Helen Peyrebrune, honorable mention
College Division: Nathan Watts & Matt Zucker, co-winners; and Ryan Louie, Agnew Prize for Best Bach
Thanks to all for participating, for performing so well, and for helping make this event run so smoothly today. Spending the afternoon surrounded by such wonderful cellists and families is a very nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon! A huge thank you to all the wonderful judges and to Ida, Bela, Andris, Grant, Bruce and Nat, this event would run so smoothly without your help.
