March 24, 7 pm: i Cellisti! 2023

Our very popular annual cello extravaganza (and scholarship fundraiser) features Cleveland’s own, Mark Kosower, Principal Cellist of The Cleveland Orchestra (and President of the CCS), playing two works for solo cello: Serenade by Hans Werner Henze, and Lamentations, Black/Folk Song Suite by Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson. Mark will then be joined by six additional cellists (!) to play a rarely-heard ensemble transcription of the Lalo Cello Concerto.

We’ll close with a very grand finale involving any and all cellists attending, in a mass performance of a familiar and beloved piece, Randall Thompson’s Alleluia, a perennial i Cellisti! favorite. If you have never experienced the thrill of playing in a cello ensemble, this is your opportunity! See performance notes below.*

Oh ye cellists of NE Ohio, please join us. It is an amazing experience to sit in the midst of a sea of vibrating cellos, and we want all of you to experience it! We cannot think of a better way to realize the CCS mission: to “foster greater appreciation for and enjoyment of the cello.”

This unique concert is not to be missed: it could very well be the largest cello event in all of Ohio in 2023. And all proceeds from ticket sales provide the funds for the CCS Scholarships!

All seats (except for those held for Patrons) are general admission, so arrive early for best spots.  Ample free parking is available.  The concert should conclude well before 9 pm.

*Performance Notes: Participating cellists!  You must be able to read music notation, and to play 2-octave scales, with up to three #’s and b’s.  Advanced registration is encouraged, but not required.  Those who register will be sent a part to study in advance.  You will need to  bring your  instrument with you to the concert, an endpin strap or holder (it’s a stone floor),  and if possible, a folding music stand (not required but appreciated).
