Cleveland Heights resident, Dr. Damir Janigro, son of virtuoso 20th-century cellist, Antonio Janigro, will share historic recordings, film clips, and his own personal anecdotes in this one-of-a-kind program.
Antonio Janigro (1918–1989) was one of the most celebrated cellists and conductors of his time. In 1953, he founded the Zagreb Soloists, an ensemble that gained international acclaim for its exceptional performances. Janigro's cello school nurtured a generation of talented musicians who went on to win prestigious awards, including the Tchaikovsky and Rostropovich competitions. This biography-memoir, penned by Janigro's son, offers an intimate glimpse into the life of this musical legend. Enhanced by insights from his closest friends, colleagues, former students, and his two children, Antonio Janigro: A Gentleman of the Cello, presents a rich portrait of Janigro's remarkable career, complicated life, and multifaceted personality.
An appreciation of our cello heritage is a good thing. This program promises to be of great interest to both young and old, professional and amateur, cellists. Please join us!
