Thank you, thank you Maestro Mäkelä for the cello masterclass on Tuesday, February 7 in Reinberger Chamber Hall at Severance Music Center.

(L to R: masterclass participants Fiona Tsang, Eleanor Pompa, Klaus Mäkelä, Ben Mekinulov, Sonya Moomaw)
Klaus Mäkelä offered an unforgettable experience for the four performers and everyone in the audience. We are so grateful for the time he so generously provided the Cleveland Cello Society.
In gratitude, we bestow upon Klaus Mäkelä status as a Lifetime Member of the Cleveland Cello Society!
The CCS also expresses gratitude to The Cleveland Orchestra for their generous support and collaboration in organizing this masterclass.
In collaboration with The Cleveland Orchestra, the CCS is very excited to announce a cello masterclass by Finnish conductor Klaus Mäkelä during his guest conducting engagement with The Cleveland Orchestra in February 2023. Recently described in the NY Times as “. . . perhaps the fastest-rising conductor of his generation,” Mäkelä currently is the Music Director of the Oslo Philharmonic and Orchestre de Paris as well as Artistic Partner of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. Did you know Klaus Mäkelä studied both conducting and cello at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki? As a cellist, he has collaborated with many Finnish orchestras and has performed chamber music across the globe, playing a Giovanni Grancino from 1698. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to gain new cello insights as Maestro Mäkelä works with four rising-star cello students.
