March 16, Friday, 8 pm: i Cellisti!, Alisa Weilerstein, guest artist

Please join us for our hugely-popular fundraiser. The stars aligned, as it were.   It turns out Alisa Weilerstein will be in town performing the Barber Concerto with The Cleveland Orchestra (TCO) and has most generously offered on her "free" Friday evening to perform on our program Suite for Two Cellos and Piano by Gian Carlo Menotti  with her former teacher, Richard Weiss, CCS President and Assistant Principal Cello of TCO! Thus was born the theme for this year’s concert—“Teacher and Student”. Numerous cello teachers and their students from colleges and conservatories of Greater Cleveland (including the studios of Martha Baldwin, Pamela Kelly, Mark Kosower, Ida Mercer, and Brian Snow) will round out the program which will culminating in a grand finale featuring upwards of thirty cellists.

Alisa Weilerstein, hailed as the “next generation’s cello superstar” and winner of numerous awards including an Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2001, the 2006 Leonard Bernstein Award, a 2011 MacArthur “genius grant” Fellowship, and the BBC’s Classical Recording of the Year in 2013,  grew up in Cleveland.   She is a graduate of the Young Artist Program at the Cleveland Institute of Music where she studied with Richard Weiss.

It’s always exciting when Alisa comes back home and the CCS is thrilled to have her join us for this truly inspirational evening in celebration of the cello!

All proceeds from ticket sales provide the funds for the CCS Scholarships.
