Cleveland Cello Society Silent Auction - 2018

Note! 100% of all proceeds go directly to the CCS annual scholarship program, for students of the elementary through the collegiate level

Rules

  1. Bids will be accepted until midnight on Saturday, March 24, 2018.   
  2. Bids must be made in $10 increments, starting with the Minimum Bid.
  3. For all bids, please include your name, the item you are bidding on, your bid amount, and the best way to reach you in case of questions or for any “outbid” notifications
  4. Bids can be submitted by email to ccsauction2018@gmail.com or by calling the CCS at (216) 921-3480 and either speaking with us, or leaving a voicemail with your bid info.
  5. Periodically between now and the close of bidding, we will look at the status of all bids.  If you have been outbid, and if you have left your contact info with us, we will try our best to let you know the current high bid, so that you can re-bid if you wish. 
  6. Winning bidders will notified via email and asked to make payment in full (cash, check, credit card), as soon as possible after March 24, 2018. 

Auction Catalog

Item #1:  A one-hour lesson with Mark Kosower, Principal Cello Louis D. Beaumont Chair, The Cleveland Orchestra, faculty member at CIM, and board member of the CCS. Hailed by the Chicago Tribune  as “ an exceptionally intelligent and sensitive cellist”, here's your chance to gain some insights and tips from one of the leading cellists of our time.  This lesson must occur before March 16, 2019.  Minimum bid:  $150.

Item #2:  A private one-hour lesson with Richard Weiss, First Assistant Principal Cello, The Cleveland Orchestra, faculty member at CIM, and current President of the CCS. Whether you are in need of tips for practicing scales and études, hoping to refine solo Bach and concerto movements, or agonizing over orchestral audition excerpts, he can help! Enjoy a one-on-one session with one of Cleveland's premier cellists/teachers.  This lesson must occur before March 16, 2019.  Minimum bid: $150.

Item #3: A private one-hour lesson or ensemble coaching with Sharon Robinson, cellist in the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio and faculty member at CIM.  A fine opportunity (solo or with your ensemble) to work with Ms. Robinson, recognized world-wide as a consummate artist and one of the outstanding musicians of our time.  She welcomes any age, youngsters to seasoned adults.  This lesson must occur before March 16, 2019. Minimum bid: $150.

Item #4:  A one-hour lesson with Pamela Kelly, on the cello faculty at the CIM Preparatory Department, and board member of the CCS.    Did you know a few years back the winners of ALL the divisions of the CCS Scholarship Competition had one thing in common? They were either current or former students of Pamela Kelly!  You too can have a lesson with this teacher extraordinaire.   Lesson must occur before March 16, 2019.  Minimum bid: $100.

Item #5:  A one-hour lesson with Julie Myers King, on the cello faculty at The Music Settlement, cellist in the Akron Symphony, the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, and the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, and a board member of the CCS.   An all-ages teacher, Julie will share practice tips, technical pointers, and musical insights gained over her teaching career spanning 20-plus year.    This lesson must occur before March 16, 2019.  Minimum bid: $100.   

Item #6:  A one-hour lesson with Ida Mercer, on the cello faculty at both The Music Settlement and CIM/CWRU Department of Music, and CCS Director of Programs.   Ida’s all-ages studio includes not only students (pre-schoolers through collegiate), but an eclectic mix of adults, currently including an airplane pilot, high school physics teacher, an obstetrician, and an accountant.  Ida was thrilled to be awarded  Studio Teacher of the Year by OSTA in 2002, and will be happy to work with a rank beginner or seasoned cellist, sharing pointers and insights to improve your cello technique.  Must occur before March 16, 2019.  Minimum bid:  $100.

Item #7: Coda Prodigy Cello Bow  - a carbon fiber cello bow from Coda that’s precision-engineered to provide select professional characteristics for exceptional students.  Donated by Terry Carlin Violins, 2026 Murray Hill Road #201, Cleveland, Ohio 44106.  Valued at $415.  Minimum bid: $300

Item #8:  One bow rehair (violin, viola, cello or bass), donated by Cleveland Violins.  2917 Mayfield Road , Cleveland Heights, Ohio.  The  certificate will be mailed to the winning bidder.  Valued at $65-75. Minimum bid:  $50.

Item #10: A Cello Grab Bag—includes Kaplan Premium Rosin, cello ornament, tote bag, and a  $20 gift card at Royalton Music Center, 10167 Royalton Road, North Royalton, OH 44133 Valued at $46.50.  Minimum bid: $25.

Item #11: “A Tea Party Like No Other” CCS board members and cello colleagues Pam Kelly, Ida Mercer, and Julie King along with Julie’s daughter, Amelia, who is a student of Pam Kelly, will host a proper afternoon tea party for 8 (in the garden, weather permitting) at the home of Ida Mercer and perform a little cello ensemble program for the winning bidder and up to 7 friends.  Tea party must occur before March 16, 2019. Minimum bid: $200.

Item #12:  A "complete package" photo shoot with professional photographer Susan Bestul, also a CCS Board member - ideal for a musician requiring photos for a CV mailing or website.  This package includes 1-2 hours shooting at your choice of location (within 25 miles of Cleveland); approximately 100 total shots, retouching available, an  online proof gallery with client access password and the ability to download all high resolution files  (in color or B&W).  The photo shoot must occur before March 16, 2019.  Minimum bid:  $200.

Item #13:  A dining extravaganza for eight by Chef Marianne Paul of Twinz Catering, plus a cello duo performance by cellists and CCS Board members, Nick Diodore and Ida Mercer.  When CCS member Marianne Paul is not preparing for her next cello lesson, she is preparing food for her catering business, Twinz Catering in Aurora.  It was the CCS that brought Marianne, Nick, and Ida together over a decade ago.  (Nick is Marianne’s cello teacher!)  The high bidder will be treated to a delicious dinner for 8 (menu to be mutually determined by Chef Marianne and the winner) and cello performance at either the home of Marianne Paul in Aurora or the home of the winning bidder.  (We will supply all the food, but any alcohol must be provided by the diners.)  Dinner must occur between June and October 2018.  Minimum bid: $350.
